Lara Croft is at it again. And by "it," I mean raiding actual tombs, not running from cops or doing whatever the heck happened in that last Tomb Raider game. We got a shot at a playable demo of the new game, Tomb Raider: Legend, on the Xbox 360. It featured plenty of ropes to climb, boulders to roll, and so on. Presumably you'll still be tasked with "shimmying sideways until there is room."
This week's new release outlook is fairly dim. We've got the movie-inspired
monkey mayhem of Curious George and... well yeah, that's it, unless there's an Xbox Live Arcade update in the works for this week. The last release for that was Marble Blast Ultra, which has its moments. Your next shot at retail games for the Xbox 360 remains 2/14, which is where Full Auto will ship. The Full Auto demo is currently available for download via Xbox Live. You should probably check it out if you're interested in seeing cars, guns, and explosions. A small niche, I'm sure.
Currently on for this month on Xbox Live Arcade are AstroPop, Feeding Frenzy, and Jewel Quest, but there's no hard, fast release calendar for Xbox Live Arcade. When stuff is done, stuff comes out. Unless there are too many brand-new games on there, then they probably hold one back or something to ensure a steady flow, rather than flooding people with new games. But enough about the logistics. I just want Street Fighter II to be released. And HoopWorld, too. We recently posted a designer diary from the developers of HoopWorld, and it sounds like an interesting take on arcade-style basketball.
Lastly for this week, Microsoft pushed out a new dashboard and kernel update for the Xbox 360. This is the second one that's gone out since the release of the system. Remember the first time you connected the system to an Internet connection and it was all "yo, we gotta download something, hang out, OK?" That was the first one. This update's pretty minor. Now you can delete a profile but keep all of its saved games. And a few error messages are more detailed now. The update that people keep asking about--the ability to download content in the background--isn't in this build of the dash. Personally, I don't see why people want that so badly, but then I have a computer in the same room as my 360, so I can just sort of turn around and do something else while things download. There you go for this week, let's do this again next Thursday, OK?
