The first announcement from Microsoft last week came in the form of a list of original Xbox games that will work on the Xbox 360. While we'd been hearing all sorts of speculation on this topic--some putting the official number of supported games down to around, oh, Halo 2--the actual number will be somewhere over the 200 game mark. Thankfully, awful games like Gravity Games Bike and Kabuki Warrior are on the list. I was getting worried there for a bit. But seriously, you'll be able to play both Halo games, all the GTA games, Ninja Gaiden, and a bunch of other key and not-so-key games. And that's just the beginning, because Microsoft will be releasing updates to its Xbox emulator over time that should make it support more and more of your old stuff.

Then came the thing that I've been griping about for weeks--an actual official list of the games that will be available as of November 22. It's 18 games, which is the exact number I reported here last week, but I had Dead or Alive 4 in there, which has since been bumped to December. The game I missed was King Kong. But hey, 18 is a pretty good number, no matter how you stack it up. And now, a second wave of those launch games have hit stores. So all of EA's stuff, for example, should be out there right now, waiting for you.

This week is probably the biggest week of the entire year for game releases. Not only is all this Xbox 360 stuff hitting shelves, but you original Xbox owners will also get Half-Life 2, True Crime: NYC, Need for Speed Most Wanted (which I must reiterate here, has totally face-melting cutscenes), DDR Ultramix 3, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Aeon Flux. Man, is it just me, or is the concept of making an Aeon Flux movie in 2005 one of the worst ideas you've ever heard? That's just completely insane. Does anyone even know/care about Aeon Flux these days?
Anyway, next week... it's finally here. Excited yet? Or are you holding off and waiting to see what else is in the pipeline for the 360? Either way, these are definitely exciting times. Keep checking out the site for more info.
