I've got plenty of good material to go over with you this week, including blow-out coverage of a major game industry event and a demo premiere of one of the best PC games so far this year, so let's hop to it!

First up, the dust is settling on the 2006 Game Developers Conference, a yearly event in which all the world's game developers congregate to talk shop, hawk wares, and exchange business cards while nudging and winking. Why they let us media types flock to the event, I'm not so sure, but being able to observe game developers in a relatively natural habitat certainly makes for good coverage. Check out our jam-packed GDC page for comprehensive news and previews of what went on at the show, including rundowns of many of the panel discussions that took place. There's some really insightful stuff in there.

Next up, the good word is in about The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which, in my review, I unflinchingly called one of the greatest role-playing games ever made. If you've been fortunate to play it already, chances are you know just what I'm talking about. The level of freedom, the attention to detail, the quality of the story and presentation, and excitement of the action, and really just about everything about Oblivion is extraordinary. Amazingly enough, it also seems like many of those who didn't care for the previous game in the series are really impressed with Oblivion...yet, fans of the series couldn't be happier either. So yeah, don't miss out on what feels like one of the biggest runaway successes in a while. Just be sure you have a powerful PC before you dive in.

Speaking of runaway successes, this week we'll be pleased to premiere the official demo for Galactic Civilizations II: The Dread Lords. Together with Oblivion, it's one of just a small handful of PC games that's earned our Editors' Choice Award so far this year, due to its addictive design and outstanding artificial intelligence. If you haven't yet had a chance to play the game, now you'll be able to test-drive it for free and find out why this one's been keeping so many people up late at night since its release.

That ought to keep you busy, but we've got lots more reviews and previews lined up, plus a very special announcement prepared for this Saturday...you might want to check in about that. Don't say I didn't warn you.
