Whoo, boy, things aren't slow right now. There are a lot of good games out there you could be playing, and we've got the word on why, plus plenty of info on what's coming down the pipe shortly. Let's hop to it! After all, you could be hitting the "next turn" button in Galactic Civilizations II right this second. Unless you're at work. That would be uncool.

First up, we've got the scoop on how The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II finally turned out, and it turned out great. As you may have heard, the big difference between this game and the original is that Electronic Arts nabbed the whole Tolkien license--not just for the movies but also for the books, so this new game goes into expanded territory that the movies didn't mess with. The new strategic map feature also turns out to be a solid addition to what was an exciting real-time strategy game to begin with. Read on for more.

Perhaps an even pleasanter surprise arrived in Galactic Civilizations II, a "4X" strategy game in the vein of our 2005 PC Game of the Year, Civilization IV. GalCiv 2 is the spiritual successor to games like Master of Orion, and it features an extremely well-designed, addictive structure that'll keep you riveted if you've got an inkling of interest in this type of experience. It's also got remarkably good artificial intelligence; how often do you hear us saying that about any game? Apparently GalCiv 2's grass-roots support and exceptional quality is turning it into this season's PC sleeper, so don't be late to the party and check it out!

Last up, I wanted to plug my latest impressions of the newly released Dungeons & Dragons Online, since I'm also chronicling my experiences with the game as I go. It's been a tough battle, but I'd expect no less from my geeky days of sitting around a table with a bunch of other dudes, rolling our 20-siders...err, to be honest, those days really weren't that long ago. Anyway, it's quite interesting to see how D&D was transformed into an MMO, so take a look if you're curious. And if you've been playing, maybe I'll see you can be the cleric or rogue to my fighter. Yeah, that'd be nice.
