The revered niche developers at Nippon Ichi Software have been perfecting their strategy-RPG formula for years now, bringing a new version of this tried-and-true gameplay to games like Phantom Brave, La Pucelle, and arguably the company's most popular franchise, Disgaea. Finally Nippon Ichi is revisiting that quirkiest of universes with the aptly titled Disgaea 2, and our first look has the full details. In addition to the requisite upgrades to the strategy combat, the new sequel throws you a curveball by casting all-new characters as the plot leads--but you'll still see your favorites from the first game popping up now and again. Check out the preview, developer interview, and a number of gameplay movies to get the whole story.

Since the incredible Lumines hit the PSP at that system's launch, puzzle offerings on Sony's wonder-handheld have been few and far between. Luckily, Ubisoft has a new one coming from developer Taito, though it's not nearly the falling-blocks-from-the-sky puzzle variety. In Exit you'll take the role of Mr. Escape, a stylish dude who specializes in rescuing helpless citizens from volatile situations. The game presents 100 levels full of hapless folks, and you have to puzzle through all sorts of crazy obstacles to get in and get them out. How much fun is all this madness? You'll have to read the full review to find out.

Lastly! As sports games go, EA's offerings may draw the lion's share of the attention. But at least in the soccer world, there's another big dog besides FIFA, and that's Winning Eleven. The ninth (yeah, ninth) game in the series has just landed on the PS2, and it's another excellent game of footy. Besides the improvements to the gameplay--which are many--the biggest addition in Winning Eleven 9 is online play, so you can finally get on the Internet and take your team to the top. When the worst thing you can say about a game is that it lacks some team licenses, you know you've got a pretty good sports game on your hands.
