Now this is more like it. All of a sudden new games are piling onto store shelves and a lot's happening. It's a good time to be into PC games, especially if you're independently wealthy. But even if you're hard up for some cash, we've still got some good stuff for you to check out and play this week.

First up, let me belatedly announce our demo premiere of Commandos Strike Force, a tactical shooter set during--wait for it--World War II. But this one's not like all the others. You've heard of Commandos, right? It's an innovative real-time tactics series that started way back in 1998 and hit its prime with 2001's Commandos 2: Men of Courage. You played those games from a top-down perspective, but Strike Force lets you see the world right through the eyes of your multitalented troops. Speaking of talent, the developers at Pyro Studios have done some great work in the past, so check out the demo of their latest project and see if they've still got the magic touch.

Maybe part of the reason Pyro moved away from strategy games is because of competition like Star Wars: Empire at War. Our verdict is in on this highly anticipated game, so check out our review and video review if you haven't heard the good news about how it finally turned out. As an aside, it's nice to see that Star Wars games have made a strong recovery in recent years, between Empire at War, Republic Commando, and the Battlefront series. I wonder how many people out there like the games more than the movies at this point.

I'll close by calling your attention to another significant story when it comes to real-time strategy. We've got a detailed Q&A with the makers of Medieval 2: Total War, the next game from the people who brought you Rome, Medieval, and Shogun. The developers at Creative Assembly have done an excellent job in the past of combining historical authenticity and realism with fun and well-designed gameplay, so we're naturally curious to learn more about Medieval 2. But you can glean plenty of tantalizing details from this first Q&A. So check it out, and see you next week.
