But will DOA4 really come out next week? That's the million dollar question. Tecmo's never really officially announced a hard date for it (other than the decidedly soft "2005"), so all the movement and speculation is coming from retailers, who have been sliding the game's release date back since the Xbox 360 came out. It sounds like it's really close to finished, so I think it's certainly possible that it'll make it out the door sometime next week.
As for GameSpot, we're in the office for a couple more weeks now, and we're working hard on

Game of the Year deliberations and game reviews. Looking back on 2005, it was definitely a pretty action-packed year. Between the March launch of the PSP and the November release of the Xbox 360, 2005 had hardware launch insanity covered. It also qualifies as the start of the transition period, when all the developers start investing more and more into making games for new platforms and less and less in making current-generation games. The original Xbox practically qualifies as a casualty of transition. Microsoft stopped supporting it with new games rather suddenly this year, leaving third-party publishers to squeeze whatever sales they can out of the "old" platform.
As far as new releases for 2005 are concerned, there are only two games that

I'm waiting for. DOA4's an obvious one. The other, though, is Midway's Xbox Live Arcade-bound Robotron: 2084. This classic arcade game is as intense as it gets... at higher levels, it's probably even more intense than similar stuff like Smash TV and Geometry Wars. Of course, there's also a very high nostalgia factor at play here, too, but it's definitely one of my all-time favorites.
So, until next week, maintain that holding pattern. Xbox 360 owners, continue earning as many achievement points as you possibly can. Xbox owners... keep playing Halo 2, I guess. It seems like that's all that anyone with an Xbox and an Xbox Live account plays these days. What about Blitz? Play some Blitz! Or some Burnout! Sheesh!
